An example of negative externality is over usage of CFCs - chlorofluorocarbons.
CFCs are used in refrigerants, air conditioners, propellants for aerosols, for generating foamed plastics like expanded polystyrene or polyurethane foam, and as solvents for dry cleaning and for general degreasing purposes. All the CFC products are invented to improve standard of living of people and it also benefits people. For example, refrigerants give people the benefit to drink cold water and air conditioner cools people. However, these products cause negative impact to the earth. CFC causes damage to the ozone layer resulting in the depletion of the ozone layer.
